Alfred R. Berkeley III

Chairman

Al has over 30 years of experience in the financial industry. Prior to joining Pipeline, from June 1996 until August 2003, Al served as President and then Vice-Chairman of The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. Before Nasdaq, Al was a Managing Director of Alex. Brown & Sons, a leading investment bank. Al co-founded Alex. Brown’s Technology Group in 1975. The Technology Group completed about 500 financial offerings for clients while he was associated with the Alex. Brown. Al is a graduate of the Wharton School of Finance of the University of Pennsylvania (MBA) and the University of Virginia (BA). He served as an officer in the United States Air Force.

Fred J. Federspiel

President

Fred Federspiel is the President and founder of Pipeline Trading Systems, a rapidly growing independent and anonymous large block trading venue. Fred earned a PhD in Experimental Nuclear and Particle Physics from the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana, and then worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a nuclear physicist. Fred became very interested in understanding how market structure impacts the ability to efficiently trade large orders while working at the Bios Group, a complexity science consulting firm founded by Ernst & Young. This interest culminated in the founding of Pipeline in 1999, and ultimately in the launch of the Pipeline block trading platform on September 9th, 2004.

Michael C. Brooks

General Partner, Venrock Associates

Mike joined Venrock in May 2000 as a General Partner. His previous experience was with Morgan Stanley & Co., where he was a Managing Director responsible for the firm's investment banking activities with emerging growth and technology companies, and with J.H. Whitney & Co., where he served as Managing Partner and Senior Partner. In addition to Pipeline, Mike currently serves on the boards of Digital Railroad, MessageOne, Optinuity and PerformanceRetail and previously served on the boards of DecisionOne, Homestore.com, MediaMetrix, Niku, P-Com, Pegasus Communications, Sungard Data Systems and USInternetworking. He has also served as a director of the National Venture Capital Association. Mike holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Yale College and a M.B.A. degree from Harvard Business School.

Michael W. Brown

Mike was Chief Financial Officer for Microsoft from 1993 to 1997. He joined Microsoft in 1989 as treasurer. Prior to joining Microsoft, Mike was a partner at the public accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche. He is a past chairman of the board of directors of The Nasdaq Stock Market and a past governor of the NASD and has served on the boards of several companies. Mike holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics degree from the University of Washington in Seattle.

John Garrett

Managing Director, Meritage Private Equity Funds

John joined Meritage from private law practice with the firms of Kirkland & Ellis and Brownstein Hyatt & Farber, where he specialized in mergers and acquisitions, venture capital, public and private offerings of securities, commercial finance, and securities law compliance. As a practicing attorney, his clientele consisted primarily of private equity and venture capital funds, merchant banking firms, and other private investors. John serves on the boards of directors of Xspedius and Exabyte, both Meritage portfolio companies. He received an undergraduate degree from Florida State University and a law degree from Georgetown University.

Doug Holladay

Investment Director, Meritage Private Equity Funds

Doug has more than 25 years of operating experience in successful start-up communications companies. He formed Digital Television Services (DTS), an acquirer of DIRECTV rural and suburban service areas throughout the United States, which was acquired for $335 million by Pegasus Communications, Inc. From 1990 to 1996 he was president of Sterling Cellular, a consolidator of rural cellular systems that was sold for more than $250 million. Previously, he worked for Landmark Communications, Inc. for twelve years. While at Landmark, he was one of four executives chosen to start and run The Weather Channel from 1981-1988. He was a venture partner at Columbia Capital where he served on the boards of three communications and technology companies from 1999-2003. He currently serves as a director of Semx Corporation, a manufacturer of microelectronics packaging material. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and his M.B.A. from the Darden School at the University of Virginia.

William Melton

General Partner, Global Internet Ventures (GIV)

Bill has been an entrepreneur building technology companies for more than 25 years. Prior to Founding GIV, Bill was a founder, CEO and Chairman of Cybercash, Inc. (Nasdaq: CYCH), a pioneer in e-commerce transaction systems. Bill was a founding investor in Transaction Network Systems (Nasdaq: TNSI), a nationwide network dedicated to efficient transportation of financial transactions. TNSI was sold to PSINet in 1999 for approximately $750 million. Bill was the founder of VeriFone, Inc., the transaction automation company that was sold to Hewitt Packard in 1998. Bill was also an early investor in America Online (AOL) and served on its Board of Directors until 1999. Bill currently serves on the Boards of Directors of several privately held technology companies. Bill holds a Master’s degree in Asian Studies and Chinese philosophy.
